Where do spreads start?
The spread is the difference between the buying price and the selling price. It is in effect your trading cost, so the more often you buy and sell, the wider it opens up.

Costs other than spreads
The costs charged differ by account type.
- Trading commission — Standard and Ultra Low accounts have no commission, while the Shares account charges a commission. The amount is not published on the official pages.
- Swap (holding cost) — Swaps are charged when you hold positions overnight. On the Ultra Low account some instruments are swap-free, and the Shares account is swap-free.
- Dormant account fee — If there is no activity for more than 90 days, $10 is deducted every month.
Frequently asked questions
Should I choose MT4 or MT5 at XM?
If you are new, get used to the platform on a demo account before choosing. MT4 and MT5 differ in the number of indicators and features, so first check which platform the automated trading (EA) you want to use is built for.
How many instruments can I trade at XM?
According to official information, over 1,400 assets are offered, divided into forex, cryptocurrencies, shares, ETFs, turbo stocks, commodities, indices, precious metals, energies, thematic indices and more. The number per category is not published.
When can I trade forex and crypto?
XM states that forex can be traded 24 hours a day, 5 days a week, and cryptocurrencies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
I would like to know how to log in to MT4/MT5 with a trading account.
On MT4/MT5 (MetaTrader, the program you place orders in) on a computer, click 'File > Login to Trade Account', enter your account number and password, then choose your server from the list. On Android, tap the three dots at the top left and choose 'Manage accounts > Login'; on iPhone, tap 'Settings' at the bottom right, choose 'New Account > Login', then search for and select your server. If you do not know your account number, password or server name, check with the broker's customer support. Account issuance and management are all handled by the broker; we only provide guidance in English.
I get 'authorization failed' or 'invalid account' when logging in to MT4.
This means the login failed, and it usually appears when the password is wrong or the wrong server was selected. The password for the broker's member site (Client Portal) and the trading account password you enter in MT4 are different, so check whether what you are entering is the trading account password and whether the server name matches the one in your account confirmation email. Also check that you entered uppercase and lowercase letters exactly as they are, that you did not confuse the letter O with the number 0, and that no blank space slipped in at the start, the end, or the middle. If this error appears on a demo (practice) account, according to the official guidance the usage period may have expired; password resets and demo account reissues are done by the broker.
