Leverage decreases with your balance
XM states that maximum leverage is reduced in steps as account equity grows.
- $5 ~ $40,000 — Up to 1:1000
- $40,001 ~ $80,000 — Up to 1:500
- $80,001 ~ $200,000 — Up to 1:200
- Over $200,000 — Up to 1:100
- Per-instrument limits — Each instrument has its own maximum leverage. For example, USDCHF and EURCHF are 400:1, and SOLUSD is 50:1.
Account conditions to know
Conditions worth checking before choosing an account.
- Trade size — For standard lots, 1 lot is 100,000 units, and you trade from 0.01 lots to 50 lots in steps of 0.01 lots.
- Micro account — XM states that 1 micro lot is 1,000 units and that you can trade up to 100 lots. It can be chosen on Standard and Ultra Low accounts.
- Swap-free — On the Ultra Low account, swap-free applies only to certain selected instruments. The Shares account is swap-free.
- Number of accounts — You can hold up to 10 active trading accounts with the same personal details.
- Base currency — An account's base currency cannot be changed later, so if you need a different currency you open another account. Deposits are automatically converted into the base currency.
- Dormant account fee — If there is no activity for more than 90 days, the account becomes a dormant account and $10 is deducted every month. Nothing is deducted if the balance is 0, and at that point any bonus and credit are removed.

Frequently asked questions
Which XM account should I choose?
If you want lower spreads, choose Ultra Low (EURUSD from 0.8); if you want a bonus-eligible account, choose Standard. To trade shares without leverage, choose Shares (minimum $10,000). Whichever you choose, practise on a demo account first.
What does a 20% stop-out mean?
It is the threshold at which open positions start being closed automatically when the ratio of account equity to margin (margin level) falls below 20%. The higher the leverage you use, the sooner you reach this line.
Which account gets the XM bonus?
Only the Standard account is eligible; Ultra Low and Shares accounts do not receive it. Availability and percentage vary by region, the bonus itself cannot be withdrawn, and terms and conditions apply.
Is there a demo account?
XM states that when you first sign up, a demo account is automatically created along with a real account. There are two demo accounts: Standard and Ultra Low Standard.
