Body

It is rare for price to react exactly at a thin line drawn on a chart. In practice, buying and selling cross and react within a zone that has a certain width. See it as a line and your stop loss gets clipped often; see it as a zone and you gain room to respond.

Price reacting not at a thin line but within support and resistance zones that have a certain width

Why It Is Slightly Different Every Time

Even in the same area, each participant uses a different price as their reference. Some look at the close, some at the high or the low, and some at the body of the previous candle. That is why reaction points scatter like a band rather than sitting on a single point. If you measure the width of this band in advance, you can place your stop loss outside the band.

How to Draw the Zone

Gather several recent reaction points and set the upper and lower boundaries. The more reactions there are, and the more the same area is also visible on a higher timeframe, the greater its reference value. Remember, though, that the more times a zone is tested, the greater the chance it eventually breaks.

Verification Checklist

  • Did you measure the width of the zone and place your stop loss outside it?
  • Is the same area confirmed on a higher timeframe as well?
  • Are you mistaking noise inside the zone for a break of it?
  • Have you decided in advance how you will respond when the zone breaks?
